The World’s Simplest Evangelistic Tool, John 3:16

Last week, as part of the sermon given by our Pastor at Church, he shared with us an extremely simple evangelistic tool based on John 3:16:  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”  (ESV)

He suggested that this could be used in an informal setting such as at a restaurant or over coffee.  Finding something to write on, a paper napkin or whatever, start by drawing a plus sign, or the four points of a compass.  Then, talking through the points of John 3:16, write down the following phrases at each of the four points:

  • God Loves  (N)
  • God Gives,  (S)
  • We Believe  (E)
  • We Live (W)

Of course, you can elaborate on the four points, this is just a bare outline  The beauty is that it is so easy to remember and includes all of the essentials.

So, there it is, a simple and easy way to present the Gospel to anyone, even a stranger you talk to on a park bench.

May god bless you as you go and share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Shayn Roby’s Take: The most important thing is that we SHARE the gospel of Jesus. John 3:16 is definitely a good place to start.

    • I believe that one of the reasons people avoid evangelism is that they simply don’t remember all of the versed necessary. Many faithful believers couldn’t tell you all of the verses of The Roman Road, for example. But I bet it is the rare believer who can’t recite John 3:16.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Thanks also for the re-blog!

      God bless you,
      John

      • It is indeed a wonderful tool for personal evangelism. I have team of brothers & sisters who used to go for gospel work and we are going to use this tool effectively.

        • That’s wonderful Antony, and God bless you and your team as you share the Gospel.

Another tool thatI have found very effective is the Gospel’s of John available through The Pocket Testament League. (www.ptl.org) After sharing the Gospel, show them John 20:30-31,

“And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, hand that believing you may have life in His name.”

and leave the Gospel with them

          God bless,
          John

          • Thank you so much dear John. We will make use of these tools. We go to gospel work on coming Saturday. Our team comprises of house-wives, teachers, business people, students, retired and serving Govt. servants. The tools will be used in our personal evangelism. I will report back the effectiveness of the tools you have provided after this week-end gospel ministry in some villages in Tamil Nadu State of India.

            • Thank you for keeping in touch Antony, I look forward to reading your update.

I did not know until now that you are in India. Unfortunately, the Gospel’s of John supplied by the Pocket Testament League are printed only in English, Spanish, Italian, Chinese and Japanese.

My best wishes and blessings of God,
              John

              • Thank you dear John for the prompt reply and your loving wishes. Though many local languages are spoken in India, English is the Commercial Language and it is used everywhere. But, in villages English may not be useful as Tamil is the local language spoken here. However, the first simple tool of John 3:16 can be translated and used and the ptl can be used in our City Teaching Ministry which we call it Door2Door Evangelism to reach the educated and rich people who are Hindus & Muslims. Out of her 1.2 billion population, India has around 5% of Christians and from this tiny number, 1% are the born again Christians. Please pray for India.
