In Jesus Is True Joy!

These are some very penetrating questions. Something for us all to think about.

Pastor Mike Says

I urge you to read the blog below that was written by an Atheist to Christians. He was very polite and respectful, while bringing up a very serious question that w should all be asking ourselves. It should leave you really thinking and asking yourself why.

I was a Christian recently enough to remember what it felt like to really believe the Creator of the universe talked to me, to really believe I would go to heaven and unbelievers would go to hell, to really believe that prayer made a difference.

It sure felt like I really believed that stuff. And other Christians tell me they really believe that stuff, too.

But something’s not quite right with that.

Supposedly, my parents really believe that I am going to hell now that I’m an atheist. They believe their son, whom they love dearly, is going to…

  2. Hi Anne,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this very difficult topic.

Through prayer, my private thoughts, conversations with my wife, and reading, I am realizing that I am putting too much effort into this area of evangelism. Also, my experiences have made it clear, as you said, you can’t teach someone whose heart is hardened to the truth.

So, I will be more careful in the future where I spend my efforts, being sensitive to the Lord’s leading in case one should come along who really does have ears to hear the truth of His Word.

    God bless,

    • Hi John we are all called to evangelise even to those who won’t listen and when they don’t we shake the dust off our sandals in other words we don’t take to heart their rejection or can we bless them because they reject our Lord who blesses.

Each one of us is responsible for sharing God’s Truth and planting good seeds, Faith comes from hearing the word which is His Truth and when motivated by The Holy Spirit we will ….God tells us to examine ourselves to see if we are in the Faith if Jesus Christ is within. 2Corinthians 13:5

After Pentecost and the filling of The Holy Spirit no one had to tell the followers of Jesus to witness they wanted to and were equipped and empowered to do so.

Love and blessings from both of us – Anne

  3. I have to confess, I sometimes have a lot of doubts about this whole witnessing to atheists thing.

First, if I am witnessing to a devout atheist, am I just casting my pearls before swine? Devout atheists must make up only a small percentage of the whole. Many more people are at least open to spiritual matters. Is it not ore worthwhile witnessing to them?

And then there is the whole atmosphere of a confrontation with an atheist, and that’s really the only way I can describe it. Most atheists are very aggressive and it seems that more often than not their only goal is to prove the Christian wrong. Every time I try to pin them down on a single point they’ll be off on another tangent.

I am never really sure of my own motives, am I really trying to convey truth, or am I really trying very hard to come out on top?

    I’m confused!

    • Hi John, we are to go into all the word and preach the Gospel we don’t exclude Atheists but if they won’t listen we move on, yes we leave them with the Truth but we don’t argue about their worldly understanding. When I first started sharing with Atheists I was not sure if this was what God wanted me to do so I asked and He gave me two Scriptures but they seemed like they were contradicting each other.

Proverbs 26:4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.

Proverbs 26:5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

God showed me a lot in connection with them, but I will just share briefly. The first one warns us about not becoming involved with what those who are deceived are promoting or we may also become deceived.

The second one is telling us to share God’s Truth with them so they will see they are deceived and if they are a Child of God known by His foreknowledge of their hearts repentance, they will be convicted in time because of the good seeds we plant and they will bear fruit.

We cannot prove to anyone who is not teachable or whose heart is eternally hard that God and His Truth are reality because regardless of what we share or show then through Scripture or God’s Creation if it does not fit into their agenda they will find a reason to reject it and us…this I found to be very True even with those who were deceived Christians or Cult Members. I have also been very saddened to realize that no matter how much or often we share God’s Truth if people are Eternally Spiritually blind we can’t reach them nor can God.

This is because God will never go against a persons free will so He will not forcibly harden a persons heart to do evil or soften it so they will submit to Him, but what He does do is discipline those who He knows are is His Children when they have wandered away and He presents His Truth as He shows them overwhelmingly that He Loves them deeply so their hearts regardless of the sin and pain that has hardened them through their life experiences they will come to heart repentance and be healed and so their hearts will be softened and they will Lovingly, thankfully and willingly like a child sit at His feet.

  4. Hi John, Atheists will say they don’t believe there is a God and then blame Him for all the evil in the world but can’t explain how they are a reality or how everything came from nothing.

Next time someone tells you no one knows what happens when we die remind him/her that people have died physically and experienced an afterlife and have come back, no they were not dead eternally but they were as far as man can determine.

But first remind them that since they haven’t died they cannot say there is nothing and we can without a doubt say there is because the Scriptures tell us what happens and God does not lie.

Next they will say the Bible is just a book written by man but this is impossible because some things when they were recorded were not know by man, only God would have known them.

    1. That the earth was round

    2. Dinosaurs are a reality since man has been on earth they were known as dragons and recorded in differant parts of the Bible.

    3. Homosexuals would cause Aids and that they would be accepted today as having a normal lifestyle.

    4. Pathology and D.N.A

    5. Facts about The Universe, formation of stars etc and the age of the earth.

    6. The earthquakes, floods and natural disasters that we are having all around the world now.

    7. All the Prophesies about Jesus life and death

    8. Christians being Martyred today.

    9. That unbelievers would not be able to understand the Bible

    10. The Church would be in disunity and in Spiritual darkness because of sin.

The link I gave you yesterday John has more.

The Link below is the Testimony of a Christian man who died and came back to tell us all about it and it is recorded that he was clinically dead so it is not deception, others have been brought back from physical death both in Bible times and in our times …. Just recently Bob’s girlfriend Wendy who we were all praying for, died 4 times and said she danced and saw Jesus. Atheists may say they were just dreaming and that may be true but they were clinically dead, no heartbeat or brain and body impulses or reactions, some even came back to life in morgues, so there is indeed life after death as we know it.

    • Thank you Anne, more very good info! I have to admit, this has been a busy week so I have not checked out the link you left yesterday. But with the weekend on its way, I will have time to give time to both of the links you have included. That is, the weekend is on its way for me (I’m still at work on Friday afternoon) but for you this is already Saturday morning if I remember correctly.

God bless you and Ron, and have a great weekend! I’ll probably post back after I have had a chance to digest what you have sent me. Thanks again.

  5. Hi John this one is their main animations “Christians must be brain dead to believe in a god that clearly cannot even exist”.

Ask them do they exist …. how do you know they exist ….. How can they exist, something can’t come from nothing… most say they evolved … tell them there is no proven Scientific evidence except that which also confirms Creation, when they object because remember they think Evolution has been proven, it hasn’t Carbon dating and other ways of determine the age of fossils or Space etc has been proven unreliable…ask then to share solid facts about the Big Bang or how they evolved and no links, just cut and past the proof how we came to be and how something came from nothing when no Scientist has been able to produce variable life from nothing in all the years they have been trying . Tell them to check out their belly button … humans are the only ones that have belly buttons like we have no other form of life does so how can this be if we evolved from an animal of course there is still no proof of this.

I will give you a differant link this time and a few more later .Atheists think we only have a few decrepit Scientists not like the many with knowledge and wisdom of their Secular ones but we very much do and there are many of them and quiet a few have Awards and are very respected in their fields some of course have died but there is always new ones.

I use to do volunteer work for Creation Ministries ( see link below ) and I met a lot of the Scientists, they would have Lunch with us, they were very humble men. We use to have prayer meetings and they would all come including Carl the Managing Director and his wife, they were all very friendly, Carl was disabled too from a car crash that he should never have survived so we got on well a brilliant man but a very, very humble person..

    Creation Ministries – http://creation.com/

Everyone from the cleaners, volunteers and all staff and management and the Top world Scientist would pray together, it was wonderful, no wonder God opened up many doors of knowledge but of course there is always more to learn.

Some would share a devotion or a Bible Truth, they were indeed Godly men and woman. Sadly I was not able to continue it was a lot of travelling and my ability to walk long distances to and from the train stations decreased and I had to leave but I learnt so much in that time I was there and I can visit any time or phone and say Hi or if I need more resources, I do have some wonderful material now to share and knowledge that the Lord also taught me but strangely at the time I was with them I had no idea I would be Ministering to Atheists in the future but God knew..

I will be back tomorrow John to answer your next Question about death. A bit long but I hope it was helpful even if long.

    Christian Love Anne.

    • Hi Anne, and thank you for the pointers. I will definitely keep these in mind next time the opportunity arises. I especially like the belly button idea.

By the way, the same person who claimed I could not possibly know where I will go when I die posted another time. He wanted to make the claim that I cling to God because I am afraid of what happens after death. He said, “Death is a scary thing, no one knows what happens when we die.”

A day went by before I realized the significance of that statement, and then it hit me. Any atheist who is convinced that the universe is cold and impersonal, and that life on earth is purely a random occurrence, “knows” that death is the end of existence, after death there is nothing, oblivion.

I suggested to him that perhaps he is hoping, if not believing that there is something out there that will give life after death meaning, and suggested that possibly, what he is seeking is God.

  6. Hi John I will be back soon but I was wondering why I don’t receive your posts or replies, I’m joined up with you but never know if you have responded or posted again.

Your Blog is also rejecting Ron’s comments unless their moderated.

  7. Hi John, sorry it has taken so long to get back to you, right now I have a WP hacker, back stabbers who call themselves Christians and personal family problems that have got me behind.

What I thought might help is if you share with me the questions but just a few at a time that the Atheists are throwing at you, I will seek to answer them for you to pass on to them but keep in mind their ego’s and fleshy pride are not going to let them agree with you openly but you will have planted seeds.

I still hope to do a post soon about Atheists it is not a message that I can just write without connecting it with their questions and I have to check them out to find the ones that are the most relevant. I did write on one Blog about 700 comments in reply to their attacks till they blocked me, not that I argued with them about what they believed just shared God’s Truth and presented the real facts, in the end they had no more ammunition.

Will wait to hear from you – Christian Love Anne.

    • Hi Anne,

The problem is, I think, that the ones I encounter mostly are not asking questions, they are making accusations. The most frequent one is, “Christians must be brain dead to belive in a god that clearly cannot even exist”.

I suppose this could be turned into a question, maybe, “How can Christians believe in a god that obviously cannot exist?” (lack of capitalization theirs, not mine)

And then one, last night claimed that I was feigning not fearing death. He said death is a scary thing because nobody knows what happens afterwards. My answer to him was that I do know, I go to live forever with the Savior of the world. I didn’t know what else to answer.

So, I guess there are two examples of conversations I might run into.

Thanks so much for taking the time to work with me on this. I really appreciate it. God bless!

    • Another example, When I say that I know with certainty that I know where I will spend eternity, his response is that I am claiming to know what no one can possibly know, therefore I am either lying or delusional.

      • I am at a loss to explain why that would happen. Another person who has commented here before required moderation when posting here the other day. That prompted me to check my settings. They are still set, as they have always been, to require moderation only on the first post. After that, they should post automatically.

  8. Hi John I would be happy to share with you but perhaps I should do a Post, there would be a lot of wordage, but I will leave a link for you now to pass on to those who bait you and I have others that are very good too.

I have spent much time with Atheists and my family are all Atheists if not into New Age and Buddhism, I know how they think, or more to the point that they don’t think things through at all, take away their props and a seed is planted but only those whose hearts are not hardened eternally will bear good fruit but we do not know their eternal destination only God does, so we remain faithful to share and to continue to Love them, I was very abused but sadly some who claim to be Christians have done the same.

    • Hi Anne,

I’ve begun looking at Proof That God Exists, great site!

I know a blog post on witnessing to atheists will be a time consuming effort, and I really appreciate your making that effort. Thank you so much, and God bless you and Ron!

  9. Hi John, I’m trying to catch up, I checked out your Reblog, I was an Atheist for almost 30 years and have been a believer for over 30 years, I have also had a Ministry to Atheists, we need to talk to them as they think not how we would like them to think.

I left a message for him, I’m quiet sure it will make him think, lets hope it will cause other to do so as well especially those in the Church. If you want me to I will share it with you but be warned, talking about how much they are loved means nothing to them if they are an Atheist in their heart, because they are full of hate, if they are an Atheist in their head they will be too confused to understand, but if they are searching they will listen, so what we need to do is to help them feel they are missing out on something better then they have and away they will go looking to prove us wrong but as God’s Truth always has the Victory they will find it and Him, we just plant the seed, but we also need to warn them their choice has consequenses, like all sin does.

Christian Love from both of us. Anne

    • Hi Anne,

Thanks for commenting, I am always happy when you or Ron pay a visit to my blog.

I would be very interested in hearing your thought on witnessing to atheists. It is something I have tried, generally with poor results. I don’t feel as if I am reaching them at all. In fact, many times on twitter, it feels like their only reason for communicating at all is to see if they can get a rise out of a Christian.
